Rhododendron Dell in Golden Gate Park

Rhododendron Dell in Golden Gate Park

Friday Photo – Golden Gate Park Blooms

It’s springtime in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco and it seems like everything is suddenly coming alive and blooming at one time. One of my favorite areas is the John McLaren Memorial Rhododendron Dell – a very colorful area when everything is blooming and the day I visited recently was exactly like that. Surprisingly only a few people were there to enjoy this beautiful garden so I practically had the entire place to enjoy the amazing garden and take some beautiful pictures – take a look at what was blooming below.

In the entrance to the garden is a bronze statue of John McLaren, the former superintendent of the gardens and this was his favorite flower. The garden was established in 1950 and has been a labor of love to maintain due to extreme growing conditions and diseases that have effected these fragile plants. But recently, attention has been spent to update the gardens and plant new beds,  and now it is beautiful again.

There are so many beautiful gardens in Golden Gate park to visit in San Francisco. Here are a few more that I have visited at various times of the year when the gardens are blooming, take a look.
