Romagna Italy, first impressions for Travel Photo Mondays

Romagna Italy, first impressions

This vast region of Italy was completely new for me to explore and when I was invited by Romagna Buon Vivre and coordinator  Alessandra Catania to experience it with other journalist, I jumped at opportunity. This large region that encompasses the south and eastern districts of the larger Emilia-Romagna region is bordered by the Adriatic sea, the Apennines to the southwest and two rivers: the Reno and Sillarlo to the north and west. Here are the highlights to Romagna, Italy  – a first impression.

What to do and see in Romagna, Italy

I was excited to learn that this region is well-known as the bread basket has a proud agricultural heritage that grows and produces some of the most well-regarded wines, produce and finish products that are exported throughout the country and internationally around the world. It is also where the famous Lamborghini factory is located at Sant’Agata Bolognese.

Many of rural towns and cities contain many ancient remains starting with the Etruscan period, to Roman and then Medieval timeframes and up to the Renaissance period including the areas I visited: Riolo Terme, Faenza, Rimini and Riccione. At the picturesque town of Riolo Terme, the medieval castle in the historic center has been completely renovated and has an excellent museum along with stunning vistas of the countryside and town. It’s one of those perfect places to put on your perfect Italy itinerary to visit in terms of a different place to visit in Romagne.

The small town of Riolo Terme is located on a hill with panoramic views of the entire region, on a clear day you can see all the way to the ocean and the ocean communities of Rimini and Riccione.

The area around Riolo Terme is filled with thermal springs that were extensively used in ancients times by the Romans up to present day. Now the thermal spas are visited for their curative waters, medical treatments and spa amenities like the historic landmark of Riolo Terme spas and hotels (sp) below
