Keauhou harbor area - Travel Photo Postcard - Keauhou, Hawaii

Keauhou harbor area along the sunny Kailua Kona area of the Big Island

Travel Photo Postcard – Keauhou, Hawaii

Such a lovely and quiet spot close to Kailua Kona on the west side of Hawaii island. Keauhou is a sleepy community with a historic past that includes being the birthplace of Kamehameha III and a vibrant fishing community. Along the coast fronting the harbor are lava rock foundations of homes, a canoe house and an ancient fishing heiau (temple) that was used primarily for the fishermen and the community for bountiful harvest. The area of Keauhou is a popular place for outdoor marine sports and recreation. The marina and coastlines are filled with tropical fish, turtles and the large manta rays that feed at night close to shore. There are many recreation outfits offering kayaking, sailing and snorkeling/scuba excursion from the small harbor area and it is a fun place to explore the beautiful Keauhou coastline.
