First impression of Ljubjlana, Slovenia –

I had no real idea what it would be like in the capital Ljubljana, Slovenia outside of some first images I saw researching the capital. Coming from Venice via hired driver was a different experience, I was hoping to travel by rail but it didn’t seem to be any routes via rail to the capital which I thought was very strange considering how relatively close they are to each other.

Traveling via expressway was simply that fast and direct, and in no time, we were in the outskirts of the city, very typical of any European city with outlying suburbs, shopping centers and business districts. We were dropped by the main railway station of Ljubljana, which looked like a very nondescript to any major railway station.  At this point, I was truly hoping that the central district and historic center were going to be a lot better than what I have seen and fortunately I picked a bnb that was just a few blocks away from the historic district.

Those are nice first impressions of Ljubljana, Noel. But what was your second impression and what did you take away from this capital city? I saw you use the world nondescript and I recently heard someone use the term to describe the whole city. Would you agree with that?

Really interesting and beautiful city. I have never been to Slovenia, nor thought much about it before this post.

Oh, I am silly- I’ve done it again, Noel! Put my name in instead of the name of the post. One day I’ll learn! 🙂
I would love to see Ljubljana. That pink building is right up my street! (I wish it were)
    Thanks for hosting and sharing.

I wouldn’t think that the first and last photos are of the same town. The first one is so dramatic and my eye is drawn to the more modern buildings. In the last, all those trees make it seem peaceful, and I focus on what I assume is a church and steeple. Is the decoration on the building in the second to last photo painted on or some sort of tile?

Noel, you make me miss Ljubljana and Slovenia in general, such a beautiful country and I’m willing to return and visit again, hopefully soon!

Your first impressions could not help but be good if that first photo is anything to go by. I love that the houses at the foreground and the one piece of blue sky are so crisp and clear with the middle of the shot showing the haziness around the mountains. 🙂

Noel, I’ve yet to get to Ljubjlana, but it looks gorgeous. Maybe soon. I love your shots overlooking the city, and what colorful buildings.

Beautiful photos like always, Noel. I’ve never been in Slovenia, although it was so close to my country of origin, but judging from your photos I probably should go. The historical center looks extremely beautiful. I don’t like the graffiti on the trains though… they make me think of vandalism, unlike the ones that are done on big walls.

Fantastic photos! I love them all.
New to your blog and just wanted to stop by and say hi. I look forwards to seeing more of your photography.

We were surprized at the beauty we found during our brief time in Slovenia; it definitely made us put it on the future’s list for a much longer stay — and these photos have just bumped it up the list!

I wonder if the details of the last building is more representative of recent times? Kind of zany, and clashes with older classical style…
