Mirogij: a cool and ancient cemetery in Zagreb, Croatia
The national cemetery of Zagreb, Mirogij is one of the old and architecturally significant cemeteries worth visiting when you visit a historic capital like Zagreb in Croatia. More than just an old and ancient cemetery, Mirogij was created by some of the country’s most significant artists, sculptors and architects to create a very stunning and art filled environment that celebrates the best of Croatian
Gorgeous buildings and sculpture can be found all over the cemetery with famous architects, artists and sculptors from Croatia creating some of the most magnificent tombs and monuments at Mirogij. The time I visited, fall colors were starting to appear in the landscape which made the visit even more special and colorful.
On the outside of the beautiful cemetery entrance are flower stalls with vendors creating some of the most beautiful floral arrangements I’ve ever seen at a cemetery. Large bouquets and stunning presentations seemed to be the norm, even exotic flowers were included in the arrangements – the surprising part is the most of these bouquets were fairly inexpensive to moderate in price range.
Thanks for stopping by for Travel Photo Mondays, I hope you enjoyed this tour of Mirogij cemetery, Zagreb and the beautiful landscape of the cemetery. If you enjoyed the post, please do share it with any of the social media buttons on the site, thank you.
Hi,
beautiful photos, but the name of cementery is MIROGOJ not Mirogij and mean, in free translation, peaceful place.
bye from Zagreb
Cemeteries really are amazing places for photography and usually no one around to bump into or to wait to move!
Great photos, I love the architecture and the beautiful floral displays
I would like to visit Coatia someday–your photos have shown such beautiful and interesting areas in this country!
That eclectic hall is beautiful! Seems practical to have flower booths nearby:)
Great photos…
Stunning as usual. You always make me want to travel.
Your photos are so inviting I can almost smell the flowers. I love the way the flowers look going up the wall. Beautiful shot. Thanks for sharing.
Noel,
I love your posts and your photography! Keep em coming!!

The architecture looks so mysterious… Would be perfect for a mystery thriller movie 🙂 love your captures.
Noel, I have been to Croatia and I have been to Zagreb, but I clearly missed visiting this beautiful cemetery. It’s almost strange, because I am normally one of those wired people who really enjoy visiting cemeteries in different countries and I would have really loved to see Mirogij. Thanks for giving me another good reason to visit Zagreb again soon… 🙂
Hi Noel, Mirogij is indeed more than just an old cemetery. It’a beautiful architectural and art showcase. It even looks magical with the fall colors. I love your photos, especially of the flowers. Truly stunning.
Noel, I love these photos, because I love going through cemeteries. My favorite shot is of the almost dried flowers. It was great meeting you at TBEX! Enjoy.
