Historic Travel photo sites: town hall of Trieste, Italy

The massive town hall at the Piazza Unita d’Italia is quoted as the largest town square fronting the sea throughout  Europe. Called the Palazzo del Municipio in Italian, the main structure is the town hall, an impressive structure constructed in 1872 to 1875 with a prominent central tower and an ornate main hall with two lateral wings. Evening time is a wonderful time frame to enjoy a walk around the square and view the town hall and surrounding buildings lit up like the photograph above.  Walking through the historic center and pedestrian areas are a must in the center where many of the major monuments and tourist sites are easy to access within a small and confined area.  To learn more about the scenic town, port and the main landmarks or attractions of Trieste, visit the Wikipedia page link here.

What a beautiful building. The lighting you’ve captured makes it look like it’s made of gold. I was glad to read Jackie’s comment that Trieste is an underrated travel destination. Think it might go on my list when I visit my daughter in the fall. I’ll look forward to seeing this lovely spot.

This is simply majestic. I noticed on the Wikipedia link that In 2012 Lonely Planet listed Trieste as the world’s most underrated travel destination. It looks very tempting indeed.

Totally underrated but worth the effort to visit especially since it’s not too far from Venice and other major sites close to Croatia and Slovenia.

I love seeing the spectacular architecture and design in town halls just like I do with state capitals here in USA. The detailed intricacies that go into these designs is really mindblowing and this one in particular is a really beautiful shot especially at night with the lights capturing perfect spots on the building.

That’s a very impressive building. Looks wonderful lit up like that. I usually prefer night shots when there is still a bit of light in the sky but this works really well just as it is.
