Downtown Vegas food and drink experience

Downtown Las Vegas offers so variety of fast food to more exceptional dining experiences far removed from the strip but worthwhile having a meal or tasty drink while you are visiting the downtown area. While fast food is easy to pick up and go along the popular Downtown Fremont Street Experience, I was able to find some wonderful dining and drinking venues that were a popular spot for locals and business people in the area. Many of the dining and drinking venues are worth checking out when you are in the area and looking for something unique for that downtown experience.

 

Here are some of the delicious places to visit in Downtown Las Vegas:

 

 

 

Carson Kitchen – 124 SouthSixth Street #100, Las Vegas 

A new dining venue that recently opened in downtown Las Vegas, this is soon to be a very popular local spot and the occasional tourist that will want to have a great food experience that exemplifies creative and tasty food combinations. Celebrity chef, Kerry Simon creates American bistro fare with a flare and unexpected combinations or finishes that make his dishes sing! Yummy appetizers include crispy chicken skins served with smoked honey, delicious empanadas filled with oh so tender beef tenderloin with a duxelle sauce and gryo tacos with lamb, tzaziki, cucumber and tomato. One the entrée front, some of the offerings include Rabbit Ragu with spaghetti squash and parmesan or Black rice and Oxtail risotto with parmesan cream. The Commissary by Richard Sandoval 206 N. 3rd Street, Las Vegas

This Latin kitchen is inspired by Richard Sandoval’s Mexican heritage infused with latin spices and other influences.  The restaurant is casual with an expansive menu covering tortas, salads, soups, and main dishes with a charged Mexican flavor from spicy to smoking hot.  Specialties of the kitchen included their rotisserie chicken – moist with a smoky and special dry rub created by Sandoval imparting a truly Mexican flavor. Latin smoked brisket also done with another special dry rub that imparts a sweet, spicy and flavorful punch. All the tortas (sandwiches) are made with this delicious buttered bread and I ordered the juicy Baja fish with cod, cabbage, chile poblano and pickled cucumber. Must have sides to order here include the yummy mexican style corn on the cob,  tortilla chips with guacamole and salsa and the yellow pepper cole slaw. Picnic Grand Hotel – 206 N. 3rd Street, Las Vegas

The rooftop pool bar and eatery at Picnic is the perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing afternoon in downtown Vegas. Whether you want to grab a nice cocktail or small bite, hanging out around the bar or any of the covered pool cabanas are a fun way to enjoy the day in a cool and fun setting at Picnic. Park on Fremont – 506 Fremont Street

An uber hip gastro pub with a huge outdoor backyard filled with quirky details.  This modern American eatery is packed with young, fun and hipster loving people (mostly local and with sprinkles of tourist wanting to mix and mingle). It’s a friendly place with fun music and interesting art on the walls especially in the back patio area.  Specialty drinks are the favorites here including Stranger Danger with Ciroc peach vodka and sweet Ice tea, Peach fuzz smash with bourbon whiskey, muddled with peaches, lemon and basil or how about a Trophy wife with Captain Morgan spiced rum with orange/pineapple juice, bitters and simple syrup.  I ordered the  Garbage Fries and everything but the kitchen sink was in it including house made fries layered with cheddar and provolone and covered with bacon, jalapenos, green onions, chipotle peppers, avocados, tomatoes and topped with a fried egg. Needless to say it really fills you up fast.

Oak  & Ivy – Container Park – 707 Fremont Street, downtown Las Vegas

Located in the container park is an inventive mixed use space of retail, restaurants and entertainment. Oak & Ivy is one of the newest In hang out spots in Downtown Vegas and offering a bevy of American craft whiskey and well crafted cocktails. Inside it’s cool and dark with very friendly service or you can hang outside on the deck and enjoy the lively street scene around the Container Park.  To check out their menu offerings, visit their website here.

 

 

Wild – 150 N. Las Vegas Blvd #100

Healthy comfort food  from a farm friendly restaurant that is committed to sourcing from organic and health focused growers and vendors. The vibe is contemporary with art inspired loft space with a huge bar area serving inventive drink s and appetizers. The restaurant area continues with the colorful graphics and art from local arts decorating the walls and adding to the cool vibe.
