A scrumptious lunch, lake cruise and visit to Lake Garda, Peschiera
After a full morning of touring around the Lake Garda region, I was getting very hungry and looking forward to a nice long Italian style lunch by a lake front restaurant. We finally made it in the late afternoon to Hosteria al Canal a lakefront restaurant in the scenic walled city of Peschiera. The restaurant fronts the canal separating the walled city from the outside and has kept the village feel intact with its and colorful architecture and cobbled streets.
The van load of travel bloggers visiting the region from around the world were all famished and we were all looking forward to an Italian feast in one of the oldest trattorias in Peschiera at Lake Garda. We started off the mid day meal with a nice plate of antipasti, local favorites from the area which included some salty and flavorful Prosciutto from the region, three types of cheese and some delicious breads. Next came three different types of pasta with specialty sauces made from the region: a luscious lasagna in a creamy béchamel sauce, a simple marinara sauce and the finale was a seafood medley with various shell-fish and oh so tasty mixed pasta in a marinara sauce.
A variety of pastas and flat breads were served as antipasti below. Ah so good, I would love to eat this again.
I was in pure heaven, and then the host of Hosteria al Canal comes out to say hello and ask us if we want to sample some of the specialty deserts that they make from the restaurant. And to a resounding ‘Yes’ all these yummilicious and gorgeous desserts are presented in these huge platters.
Time for Italian desserts at Hosteria al Canal
First is this to die for and super flaky layered crème cake and puff pastry, and yes it’s heavenly sinful!
Of course one dessert is not enough so the owner brought out a series of really spectacular desserts for us to try all their in-house specialties, I know too good to be true.
Afterwards, a nice cruise around the ramparts and old section of Peschiera and Lake Garda made for a perfect and lazy afternoon sightseeing tour of the area. The skies started to clear from the dull gray and everything just popped with color at every bend on our cruise, here’s a few pictures below of the scenic adventure.
The exterior ramparts to Peschiera are well-preserved and striking with all the greenery and late fall colors. The bridge entryway to this mostly pedestrian gate and entry is festooned with flowers filled with blooms, making it a perfect photo capture from the boat.
It’s a perfect day to be outdoors cruising the canal around the walled city and the skies were finally turning blue in around the city. Taking photos in the late afternoon light really illuminated the walled city and landscape and made image more interesting. Doesn’t if look like our group of travel bloggers below were enjoying the cruise?
Well that was a fun way to eat our way through Peschiera and also enjoy the day outside on the water cruising through the ramparts of the walled city. Thanks also to Lake Garda Tourism, the city of Peschiera, Hosteria al Canal for an amazing lunch and our event organizer Lorenzo Bonoldi for the amazing trip to this region. All opinions and thoughts were my own and I really enjoyed touring this wonderful city and lake region in Northeastern Italy.
This takes me back so many years, Noel, but what a delicious experience 🙂
Beautiful photos, as always, and man does that food look good! One of everything please.
A walled city AND Italian cuisine–lucky you! Your first image started me salivating big time. It looks so yummy. And I really liked that last shot, too. Nice.
OMG! I gained 5 pounds looking at the luscious foods and desserts and I must admit to drooling a bit! Peschiera looks so picturesque with its ancient fortress, the walled city, river and blue sky. A river cruise sounds like a wonderful way to see this beautiful city.
Noel, as usual, your photos do Garda beyond justice—-not to mention that cream and pudding layer cake. OMG.
Looks delicious, although you must have been starving by late afternoon.
Oh my! That layered crème and pudding cake is killing me! Also loved the photo of the bridge to the gate entrance at Peschiera — stunning!
How lucky were you. Mind you I would have been starving by mid-afternoon. The boat ride afterward would have been the perfect conclusion!
All the food look look inviting and appealing. And beautiful views and photos of the lake.
This looks to have been a perfect day: diving into delicious cuisine and cruising a tranquil lake. I love the golden light in your photos, and it especially complements the mood of this particular experience.
Noel, Awesome photos. I’m glad I just ate or else I’d be raiding the kitchen right about now!
What beautiful photos – and lovely food. Sounds like the perfect day out at one of my favourite places in Italy – Lago di Garda. Thanks for reminding me of it.
The seafood paella looks wonderful. Great photos – I especially like the one of the ramparts with all the greenery.
Lovely photos and now I am hungry. Love the cruise photos particularly Noel.
Great photos, especially the river/dock one. Really loving the idea of a travel photo Monday – might have to tag along in this mission 🙂
