Travel Photo postcard at Alabama Hills
Welcome to the Travel Photo postcard series to get you out on the weekends and hopefully visit some of these wonderful destinations. Some of them maybe easy day road trips or even quick getaways from where you live so I hope this inspires you to see some of the world around you even if its close by to where you live. Today I’m taking you on a quick tour of the Alabama Hills on the base of the Eastern Sierras.
Photo highlights at Alabama Hills
Located on the slope of the Eastern Sierras, the Alabama Hills are a range of fascinating rock formations, outcrops and landscape just a short drive from Little Pine on Highway 395. Containing sharp, rounded and oddly shaped rock formations, a drive through the dirt trails and the many hikes here leave you in awe of this magnificent landscape. What makes it even more special is that the entire area feels completely under the travel radar and I only saw a handful of travelers driving the dirt roads or even hiking some of the trails.
Here are some of the special moments and landscape of the area

I’m planning on doing a more detailed visit with images soon on this blog of the visit and personal experience, but wanted to share this in my Friday photo inspiration as the first post of this series. Please stay tuned for an updated post on visiting

I really love your pictures. The face on the rock is classic. I love it. Snow capped mountains and a dessert. Lol. Incredible. Great work.
What a beautiful find. I had no idea these hills existed. Thanks for the introduction.
There is so much incredible nature in the USA – I’m blown away every time I hear about a new place. We love nature and the outdoors so would love to visit the Alabama Hills on the base of the Eastern Sierras 🙂
Another great discovery Dave. The rock formations are truly unique. I think it is only a matter of time before it becomes a popular tourist attraction.
Thanks for commenting, but my name is Noel and lets hope it doesn’t get too packed down the road.
Great idea with the photo postcard! Crazy to see that there are snow-capped mountains in places that look like a dessert.
The Alabama Hills looks like an incredible location for landscape photography. I love the contrast between what seems like a desert on the valley floor and the snow-capped peaks of the mountains. Great photographs.
I love the photo postcard idea. Don’t know if I’m a big fan of the graffiti on the natural outcrops as it marks the scenery a bit but beautiful bit of America right here 🙂
Gorgeous landscape shots! I love cacti and desert scapes because I so rarely get to see them in person. This would be great to visit myself.
Love the rugged landscape and cactus. it looks like classic America to us and totally removed from the wet green landscape of our local area in Wales.
That shot of the white tipped snow capped mountains in contrast to the arid dessert is awesome! Love the contrast in colors and scenery.
I like the photos with the snow dusted hills in the background. What an interesting mix of cactus, desert scrub, and snow covered mountains on the last photo.
Hey Noel,
Newbie here appreciating a new series and a new blog. Great photos and lovely idea for a blog series. Not sure I’ll be around the Alabama Hills but it’s nice to see what some of the drives are like around the area. Thanks for this.
Cheers,
